Virtual BioBlitz
What is a BioBlitz?
A BioBlitz is an event focused on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area and during a certain time period.
How can we participate virtually?
This BioBlitz is run through a free app called iNaturalist and you can participate on your own time, anywhere in the city of Fredericksburg. You will be able to submit observations, identify species, and contribute to citizen science projects from home. The 2026 BioBlitz will be open April 1-17 leading up to the festival (on April 18).
View the leaderboards page for the 2026 event.
Visit the results page to view the leaderboards for 2025.
How do we win a prize?
There will be a prize for the person who makes the most observations during the BioBlitz. Any observations within City limits between April 1-17 will count.
Winners will be announced at the Earth Day Festival on April 18!
